India Research Training Scholarships

Applications are asked for almost 50 ASEAN-India Research Training Scholarships (AI-RTF)/year to young researchers and scientists from ASEAN-Member Countries to become affiliated with Indian academic and R&D institutions and Indian academics. Students from the ASEAN Member countries are available to apply for this fellowship.

The AIRTF scheme is the fellowship scheme with the objectives:

To promote the mobility of researchers and scientists from the ASEAN-Member states to India and give them the chance to work at Indian R&D/ academic universities to upgrade their research expertise and skills. To promote the exchange of contacts and information between the researcher and scientists of ASEAN Countries and India and create the network for building research collaborations.

ASEAN-India Science & Technology Collaboration formally began in 1996 with the founding of ASEAN India S&T working group (AIWGST).

Initially, ASEAN India Fund (AIF) but in 2008 support the, collaborative S&T activities and projects between India and ASEAN

MEA and DST establish the dedicated ASEAN India S&T Development Fund (AISTDF); the worth of this establishment is around 1 million US $ to support R&D projects and associated project development activities.

 

BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS

DEADLINE:  Candidate can submit the applications at any time during the year. There is no particular deadline for the submissions. The application submission consists of two cycles. One ends on 30th June and second on 31st December.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS and FUNDING:

All international travel-related costs, i.e., round trip international cost by economy/ excursion class by the shortest route from an international airport in the homeland of an applicant to an international airport nearest to the host university in India; visa fees, overseas medical coverage etc.
A total Fellowship amount is(INR) 50,000 per month (non-taxable) Indian rupee, for meals, accommodation, meals and other miscellaneous.
A one-time award of INR 40,000/- for six months duration for research contingency fees, airport transfers, domestic travel, airport transfers (by road) for attending events/scientific and field-trips within India, and Institutional charges @ Rs. 2,500/- per month.
The fee as in (a), (b) and (c) will be delivered to the host university in India for payment to the Fellow. The Host University will arrange suitable accommodation for the Fellow on payment basis.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidate must hold the ASEAN Member State nationality.
Possess at least the Masters Degree in Natural Sciences or the equal degree in Technology / Engineering / Medicine / allied disciplines.
Candidates should be affiliates, studying and working to any national R&D or academic institution .. The application should be signed by the Head of his/ her university confirming that if selected, he/ she will be allowed leave for the Fellowship period and will join duties back in the universities on end of the Fellowship in India.

The upper age limit:45 years as on the date of submission.

Fluency in the English language
Indian nationals are ineligible for the Fellowship.
English Language Requirements: candidates must have Fluency in the English language.

ELIGIBLE COUNTRY

  • Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam are eligible to apply for this fellowship

    Copy of the endorsement from the existing company duly elected signed and in, along with Signature of the candidate. Take the print out of a format of Support of Present Employer added at the end of the Application format. Also, attach the scanned copy of the adequately filled up document along with the application form).
    A copy of the letter/email/letter from the Indian scientist/ university with permission to accept you to work with them, if you get selected.
